Funny humour finding...

Have been reading McGee's 1979 "Humor: Its Origin and Development" (Monash Uni Co-op $4 - can't go wrong!) and came across this gem of information:

"females rated cartoons funnier when heard through the left ear, whereas males rated them funnier when heard through the right ear" (p. 218)

Hey - how would you describe this humour?

A Day of Celebration everyday!

I would describe it as 'Not Very Funny', to tell you the truth, Rickolas.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm too tired; it's not my kind of humour; or it's just not funny (but I suspect the latter). Anyone will tell you that I'm a wordsy kinda girl, and if you're not gonna be literarily creative in your descriptions of adultery, you won't get a rise out of me (not even for shits and giggles), even with overuse of 'masturbation' or other such HILARIOUS sexual lexicals.

The 'spoiler alert' theme had me mildly intrigued, before the whole thing fell flat with complete lack of creativity thinly masked by what the author clearly thought was Outrageous Sexual Content, but was infact, Quite Lame. I have read sex scenes in romance novels with greater comic value.

I'll leave you with a limerick to show that, when done right, sexual humour can actually be funny:

The new cinematic emporium
Is more than a super sensorium:
It's a highly effectual,
Heterosexual,
Mutual masterbatorium.

Sorry to poop all ovcer your party, but there it is...

Rick - I am more into situational than linguistic humour and nor did I find it funny. I think it was too wordy (sheer number of words).

Hooch - that verse reminds me of the cinemas in Brave New World which are renamed 'feelies'.

What's funny, the website or the post that was up on that website when it got linked?

Sex can be hilarious, though it's more slapstick than wordy humour. I quite like this limerick:

There once was a girl from Aberystwyth
Who took grain to the mill to get grist with;
But the miller's son Jack
Laid her on her back
And united the organs they pissed with.
